We won’t have to wait too long to dive back into the mesmerizing world of “Severance” Season 2, and whispers about Season 3 are already swirling around—though perhaps not the most reassuring update just yet.
The journey we embarked on at Lumon Industries in Season 1 was nothing short of extraordinary, showcasing the Apple TV+ series as a perfect blend of psychological suspense, unsettling sci-fi themes, surreal elements, dark comedy, and corporate dystopia.
We simply can’t overlook the incredible cast that brought these characters to life with such vividness, featuring talented actors like Adam Scott, Britt Lower, Patricia Arquette, John Turturro, Zach Cherry, Tramell Tillman, and Christopher Walken, among others.
This show rightfully ranks among the greatest TV dramas of all time. However, such acclaim comes with its challenges. Season 1 concluded with a massive cliffhanger in February 2022, leaving fans (ourselves included) eagerly awaiting answers to countless questions.
Fortunately, the premiere date for Season 2, set for January 17, 2025, offers us a glimmer of hope. Still, it seems like just the beginning of this series’ journey.
This week, the show’s writer and co-executive producer, Mohamad El Masri, shared with IndieWire about creator Dan Erickson’s overall vision for the series, including plans for Season 3 and beyond.
“From the get-go, we were thinking about future seasons. Even while producing Season 2, discussions centered around the series’ ultimate conclusion and the larger narrative,” he mentioned.
“In the second season of a TV show, there’s usually a natural progression to maintain momentum,” El Masri added.
He further stated that Season 2 will steer us towards the intended narrative direction, noting that “filming for Season 3 was already underway while we were shooting Season 2.”
Let’s be clear—this is indeed good news. There were fears that the Apple TV+ series might get canceled due to production costs, but reassuringly, sequel plans beyond Season 2 are in the works.
However, a new concern arises: Will Season 2’s ending once again leave us hanging? And if so, will it result in another lengthy wait for Season 3?
When asked about this concern, El Masri’s response didn’t quite alleviate our worries. “It’s not something I can comment on,” he said.
“All I’ll say is, I hope Season 3 doesn’t take another 3.5 years to air. As a fan, I certainly hope we don’t have to wait that long. But in Hollywood, you never know what could happen,” he added.
For now, we can only hope for the best and wish for things to move swiftly. However, even if it takes time, we can still look forward to enjoying the new episodes in January.
